Before you resign
Once you resign, you can lose access to the evidence you need.
Access to your work email and systems can be removed on the day you resign. The emails, letters and records that show what happened to you can go with it.

Three steps
Take these steps before you resign
Keep copies of all your evidence, including your contract, payslips, emails, policies and staff handbook.
Seek legal advice before you write your grievance, and before you resign.
Raise a well structured grievance in writing.
Three reasons
Why it matters
A written grievance creates a record.
Where an employee unreasonably fails to raise a grievance, a tribunal can reduce compensation by up to 25 percent.
A resignation cannot be taken back.
Once given, a resignation cannot be withdrawn without your employer's agreement. A settlement can be negotiated while you are still employed.
Records requested later can be incomplete.
A data subject access request made after you leave may not return every email you need.
